March 3, 2023
Teeth whitening is one of the best, easiest, and most effective ways of improving your smile. Thankfully, the various teeth whitening London solutions available will help make your smile whiter and brighter if you are living with yellowing or stained teeth.
If you are concerned about the health or colour of your stained teeth, chances are you have already considered having treatment. But how much does teeth whitening cost in the UK?
How much does professional teeth whitening cost in the UK?
The truth is that professional teeth whitening cost in the UK varies greatly. There are a number of factors that influence how much you’ll pay for your treatment. But ultimately, can you put a price on being happy about your new brighter smile?
While the average price of professional teeth whitening treatment is around £350 – £1000, the factors that influence the teeth whitening cost in the UK can include:
- The dentistry practice that you visit
- Your individual dental needs
- The type of treatment you choose – either at-home or in-chair

If you are looking for the teeth whitening cost in London or the greater South East, LCCD offers a range of whitening treatments for you to choose from, including at-home and in-chair whitening – which tends to be more effective for particularly stubborn stains.
In-chair treatments
Our Nu Radiance treatment includes an in-surgery whitening session, your own set of custom trays, and 2 Nu Radiance Duet gels to use at home to continue your whitening.
At-home treatments
Our Opalescence Go treatment is specifically designed for safe and effective at-home whitening and includes 10 days’ worth of treatment for both your upper and lower teeth.
Please be aware that at-home treatments require an in-clinic assessment to make sure your teeth are suitable for whitening treatment.

What is professional teeth whitening?
Professional teeth whitening is the use of specific cosmetic dental procedures to make your teeth appear healthier, lighter, and brighter.
Professional teeth whitening typically involves the bleaching of your teeth to make them appear several shades whiter but rest assured – it’s a harmless treatment.
How does our own procedure work?
Most professional UK teeth whitening treatments involve using a bleaching gel that is painted onto your teeth by a teeth whitening dentist. Here at the London Centre for Cosmetic Dentistry, the best gel we use is called Nu Radiance. Not only does it provide long-lasting results within just 5-8 days, but it is also clinically tested and proven to bring no tooth sensitivity.
After your in-surgery teeth whitening appointment, you will then be provided with teeth whitening trays that are custom-made for your mouth impression.
If you opt for at-home treatment, we recommend using the remaining gel and trays for 30 minutes every day for up to 2 weeks. Don’t worry, we will show you how to complete the at-home procedure before you leave.

Can you get teeth whitening on the NHS?
As cosmetic procedures are not generally covered by the NHS, any teeth whitening treatment offered will be for patients who require whitening under medical circumstances and will be chargeable under Band 3 fees.
To see if you are eligible for NHS whitening treatments, you will need to speak to your dentist – visit the NHS site for more information on NHS eligibility and dental fees.
Are cheaper DIY home kits just as effective?
DIY home kits may be a cheaper alternative to professional teeth whitening, but most dentists agree that they are less effective.
But why is this?
Under EU regulations, all DIY home teeth whitening kits can only contain a maximum of 0.1% hydrogen peroxide – the active ingredient used in most teeth bleaching gels.
However, professional whitening kits from dentists can legally contain a maximum of 0.6% hydrogen peroxide, hence why our treatments here at the LCCD are more effective, providing you with better and brighter results than if you use at-home DIY kits.
Is teeth whitening suitable for you?
Most of our patients are suitable for our teeth whitening treatments, but there are criteria you need to meet too, including:
- Being 18 or older.
- Having healthy teeth and gums.
- Not currently being pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Being free from veneers, crowns, bridges, or dentures – as alternative treatments are much more effective.
Before you start your teeth whitening treatment here with us, you must have a consultation with one of our teeth whitening dentists to assess your dental needs and check your general and dental health will not be affected by treatment.
After this consultation, we will then decide whether you are suitable for our teeth whitening solutions and discuss your options with you.
Is there anything you can do to prolong your whitening treatment?
We’re well aware of what an investment teeth whitening can be, so we want to ensure you’re doing all you can to prolong the amazing results once you’ve left the surgery. If you do practice the correct aftercare, your teeth whitening can last up to a whopping 3 years.
In addition to good oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing twice a day, we also recommend avoiding the following to prevent any damaging stains:
- Tea and coffee
- Red wine and sugary soft drinks
- Tomato-based sauces
- Vinegars
- Smoking
