Porcelain or gold is designed to cap the upper portion of the tooth

Dental inlays and onlays London

When it comes to repairing a damaged tooth, dental professionals consider several different options. Fillings are used to correct minor issues, while dental crowns and dental fixtures tend to be used for damage or decay that’s a little more severe. Dental inlays and onlays are used for cases in the middle.

Dental inlays and onlays are bespoke fillings designed to cap the upper part of the tooth – in other words, the chewing surface. Just like dental crowns, they’re made from porcelain for maximum strength and durability. The prosthetic is then placed onto the affected tooth and secured in place with dental cement.

You’re in safe hands at The London Centre for Cosmetic Dentistry. Our dental inlays and onlays procedures are performed by our professional and knowledgeable team – led by dentist-to-the-stars, Dr Mervyn Druian.

The difference between dental inlays and dental onlays

Although they share the same purpose – to repair or replace the upper part of the tooth – dental inlays and dental onlays are actually two different things.

Inlays tend to be smaller than onlays, and are used to fill gaps between your teeth – also known as teeth cusps. Essentially, dental inlays act like large fillings. Onlays, on the other hand, are used for one or more cusps and are larger prosthetics. Dental onlays are sometimes referred to as partial crowns. The experts at The London Centre for Cosmetic Dentistry will work with you to determine which option is best for you.
